Swimming in the snow

With the snow all around it has been near impossible to get on the bike or get a run in so it's back to the pool. I did manage a strength session on the legs yesterday and a spin on exercise bike but it's not the same. Hopefully the Christmas break will give me a chance to put some miles in on the road, depending on the weather of course!

Wednesdays have started to become swimming days so I thought I'd carry that on through Christmas and hit the pool at 7:30 this morning. Shocking session.... I wasn't concerned with distance covered rather technical improvement, but I'm not sure I've helped myself much! The stroke seems smoother but I'm struggling with my breathing. There's a 50 meter pool nearby and I think that might give me a better chance to relax and find a comfortable breathing pattern.

  1. Neil, your Wednesday sounds very similiar to mine, I too hit the pool first thing and I too had a shocking swim!! Technical difficulties were the key issues and as a result I failed to put in any serious distance, I was struggling to link the lengths together(I could only boast a 14 consecutive lengths). The techical issues that I'm experience will certainly benefit from some coaching/teaching.

  2. I'm all for getting a coach early doors next year buddy. A couple of sessions should be enough to get me on the right path and then we can get some open water coaching in April.

  3. I spoke to a swimmer over Xmas and they said the breath every 3 strokes (i.e. breath on both sides) technique was the way to do it? All very confusing!! A bit of research and a few lessons seem like what we all (except maybe harrison the fish) could benefit from.
